These problems reflect common life stressors to more serious diagnoses and biologically based disorders.

My Treatment Philosophy:

I believe we all benefit from learning about ourselves and from having the unbiased support of another person. The more understanding we have about our thoughts, our behavior, and our emotions, the more opportunity we create to make improvements in our lives. However, as Suzanne Collins wrote in the "Hunger Games" trilogy, "sometimes things happen to people and they're not equipped to deal with them." Specifically, at those times, we benefit most by seeking aid from a professional Psychologist.

During my years of providing therapy, I have helped people rise out of the pit of despair, depression and worry, overcome the fear of leaving home, having Panic Attacks, driving over bridges, flying in airplanes, attending parties and the like. Patients who had hours long rituals involving showering, checking doors, windows, lights, ovens, candles, literally pulling hairs, etc. before going to sleep, have learned how to check once and then rest. Males and females, who were fearful of eating, obese or afraid to eat only to binge and then purge, have learned to break the cycle of restriction and binge eating, in order to attain peace in their lives. Married couples, who could barely stand passing each other in hallways, have acquired the capability to treat each other with kindness, respect and love.  Parenting guidelines have been created for the betterment of families, social relationships and school performance.

I could continue with examples, but I think the bottom line is clear. As an experienced Psychologist, Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (C.E.D.S.) and Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I work caringly and diligently with my patients to help them get better in a short period of time. All therapy is research based and involves a goal oriented perspective. We work to uncover the reasons why a particular problem has appeared and caused undo difficulties in your life. But, the emphasis of therapy is on uncovering the dysfunctional beliefs that keep the problems reoccurring. We take the "Fs" for failure and change them into "Fs" for feedback. We learn from mistakes. Together, we identify your strengths and actively navigate toward them instead of allowing you to float in their direction. I believe in every person's ability to improve. Ideally, after therapy, you will have enhanced wellbeing and a sense of contentment that will last a lifetime. Creativity and science will create the solutions.
